So, I finally chose a name for my race reviews that will work for all of three racing disciplines I hope to cover: The Racing Chronicle. I yanked the name from when I saw it in Speed Racer (the 2008 film), on one of the sequences at Thunderhead. I assumed that it represented a racing newspaper, and when I didn't find any such in-real-life publication for auto racing online, I decided to go ahead with it. Hope y'all like it!

Today's race was the most exciting of the season to-date, but that's not saying much with it being the 4th race out of 36 on the schedule. Even though Atlanta is known for being fast and furious, most of the race felt more like a nice Sunday drive with professional intentions from the drivers, in my opinion. However, it had a great finish.

I wish I could come up with a snazzy name for these reviews... I've been thinking about it for awhile, but nothing really seems to fit. So, if anyone who actually reads my stuff has ideas for it, that would be much appreciated.

Also, I really need to write these reviews by the end of the day that each race is held on, so my memory stays fresh. But it doesn't exactly help that I attend church in the evenings. A blessing for me with NASCAR's East Coast races, but not when they're out West.

O the haze is slow, 'round my old Fontucky home,
Winter in California, and the skies are gray;
The Oscars shine bright and the carpets in the room
Are as red as the ones at the Auto Club Speedway...

PS: You can leave comments on my reviews, I don't bite; and these words don't make anything about the race final, including my own opinions.

I think its time I started writing about certain drivers' stories and how I view said drivers. Something to write other than race reviews, ya know? For starters, I choose 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. A lot of people love him, heck, we've got Jr. Nation in NASCAR now as much as the NFL has the Raider Nation (though admittedly those Nations are two different breeds from each other, sure as dogs is from cats).

I GOT PROMOTED!

I am now a 2nd Lieutnenant in the U.S. Civil Air Patrol. What is CAP? Wiki it, look it up, its not secret. As for my relationship with them... I got my mapping internship through them this past summer, and since my squadron likes me so much, I decided to make it a lifetime membership sort of thing. So I am the Maps Officer (self-given title), the only one for the whole state now. And since I completed my training req's and have been a member for 6 months now, I got promoted. I don't have my epaulets yet, because I haven't been able to make it to squadron meetings lately, but I got my new membership card in the mail, and it read "2 Lt".

SWEET! (Even though I don't get paid, thus no increase in pay; it IS a volunteer organization, after all.)

Post-race review for the Daytona 500 to follow shortly after this entry.

(PS: I am only just now starting to realize how heavy the gender ratio is towards women on this site. It's rather interesting to see how the attitudes surrounding this aspect manifest themselves. I have no problem with it, but I just hope that no one takes up an issue with me. I don't like wronging someone.)

This review is overdue by a couple of days... but I've been tired mentally since these races were over and only now just found a small 2nd wind to write this in, so here goes!

Race #2 of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season is the Gatorade Duels. It is actually two races of 60 laps each around the beloved Daytona tri-oval, and each with a field of 28 drivers. Most of them are already locked in to the Daytona 500, and are just racing for position and pit box location choice, thus setting up the field for the 500. This year, however, 17 others are racing to get into Sunday's race, and there's only a few open spots left for the standard field of 43 drivers, so for these "extra board" guys, its really on the line for them, and its hardly even the beginning of the season!

Welcome to the first out of what will be approximately 40 NASCAR post-race review entries for the 2009 Sprint Cup Season (My 3rd consecutive season watching). Each post will attempt to cover the race from a technical and emotional viewpoint. Race #1: the Budweiser Shootout, a 75-lap, non-points race that starts off the season and what is known as "Daytona Speedweeks".
